Our mosaic.

Today we created a mosaic using google draw. The tools we used included the polyline tool, gradient colours and a background shape on the Google Canvas. It was a lot of fun to do, but a little challenging to get the shapes just right.

Everybody is good at something!

Kia ora and welcome to our Room 5 film!

This year, we explored the funny side of life — what happens when people try their best at things they’re… not exactly great at!

From running to being quiet in the library, our film celebrates giving it a go, having a laugh, and learning that it’s okay not to be perfect.

Hi I’m Mr Rainbow

Today for Cybersmart we used Kleki. Its a art app. Room 5 has been exploring a great trick using the online drawing tool Kleki to create colorful and animated art, like this vibrant rainbow fish! We learned how to use a transparent background and work with layers to trace outlines from images we found online. By placing the original image on one layer and tracing our outline on a new one, we achieved perfectly clear black lines. Best of all, saving the final picture as a PNG with a transparent background means we can easily drop our creations into other pictures or videos, making them perfect for animations! We think this drawing is fin-tastic!

Real or Fake?

Today we learnt to look carefully at online media to see if its real or fake. When we view media, we have to ask ourselves some questions, What do you see in the image? What message is the image trying to convey? What elements are in the background and foreground? We learnt how to take a photo, upload it to Remove BG and then inserted it onto our back ground.

Your eyes are going to go square

Today, we learnt about Media. We learnt Media is all around us and we use it everyday. Media can inform, entertain and persuade us. Here in Room 5 we mainly use Media to entertain us. One skill we used today was to embed our slide into our blog and changing the height and width.

Looking at Comments

Today, we focused on what is a quality comment. We know that you have be positive and specific when comment about what the author has written. We noticed that we did not use all of the labels, that is ok. A helpful hint is to draft it with a buddy. One skill we used was to flip the labels and move them into position.

Our Zoo Trip

Last week Room 5 went on a very exciting trip to the zoo! We went with our teachers and parent helpers, and we were all so excited to see the animals we had been learning about in class.

When we arrived, we split into our groups and started exploring. Some groups went to see the giraffes and zebras first, while others went to look at the monkeys swinging and climbing. We even got to see the lions resting in the sun! 🦁

One of the highlights was visiting the kiwi house. It was dark inside, but some of us managed to spot a kiwi moving around quietly. It was amazing to see our native bird up close. 🥝🐦

We also learnt lots of new facts. Did you know giraffes only sleep for about 30 minutes a day? And that meerkats take turns keeping watch while the others dig for food?

It was such a fun day at the zoo, and we are thankful to our parent helpers who made it possible. We learnt a lot about animals and their habitats, and it was a trip we will always remember!

Quality Comments

Today, we focused on what a QUALITY comments look like. They have three KEY components- A warm greeting/ positive and specific reply to what the authors has written, a thoughtful and helpful comment. A key thing to remember is that you do not have to all three in you comment. A helpful hint is to draft your comment first.

My Learning About Estuaries

This week in reading we learnt a bit about estuaries and why they are important.

They are important because they are home to many different species of animals. This includes, bird, shellfish and fish. People love estuaries because they like to go swimming in them, paddle boarding and estuaries are really good for fishing.
